Adj's Hair Story Continued From Page One

WANU WA ZURI

Thank goodness for the Black Power movement.  I was temporarily freed from hair relaxer slavery.  I cut out the relaxer and got an Afro.  I had a BIG Afro.  People oohed and awed and patted my beautiful big hair.  I was loving me some Black Panthers and watching Soul Train.  Every body had an Afro.  The Jackson Five, The Five Stairsteps, and I think even the Caucasians like Art Garfunkle and Barbara Streisand had 'fros.  But I heard the Jewish people called theirs Ja'fros.

Well, my hair freedom came to an abrupt end.  I was sent to live with my father in Miami.  He was not Black.  He was a Negro.  My hair was once against pressed.  My Black Power symbols destroyed and it wasn't long before the hair relaxer addiction returned.  The following decades I spent many thousands of dollars on "touch ups."

CHEMICAL HAIR CUT

One day I came home from the hairdresser with very very straight hair.  As a matter of fact I looked like an Indian.  My hair started to shed and shed.  It was over processed.  It was a hopeless cause.  I could let it continue to break off or put it out of its misery.  I left the house with mid length straight hair and returned home with a TWA (Teeny Weenie Afro)  My boyfriend freaked out.

I wore braids for awhile but it wasn't long before I was back getting my hair relaxed.  During this time my hair would grow and then inevitably the hairdresser would make a face and say "We have to cut these ends."  My ends were always looking chewed up.  I didn't realize it at the time but the chemicals in the hair relaxers would erode my hair until it was frayed and frizzy and had to be cut off.  So it grew 1/2 inch a month and I had to cut off 1/2 each month which resulted in negative hair growth.  So, I never got past a certain length.  If I stopped relaxing and wore braids it seemed to grow.  But, that was because I wasn't destroying the ends.

During the "Chemical" relaxer years I lost at least three entire heads of hair due to over processing or under neutralizing.  In 1995 I finally said "Enough is Enough."  When I told my hairstylist I wasn't going to relax my hair any more she started to cry.  She said "Your hair is too big to not have a relaxer."  I didn't care.  I was through.

NAPPILY EVER AFTER*

For the first time in my life I took control of my hair care.  Having a mother who was a hairdresser made me spoiled.  I always had someone to do my hair.  I was afraid of doing my own hair.  It was overwhelming.  I started to experiment with hair products.  I mixed stuff in my kitchen.  I finally got my mother to share some of her hair care secrets.  She had found a plant on the island of Tobago in the West Indies that people used on their hair and their hair grew long.  The key was moisture.  African Americans grow up putting heavy petrolatum based products or "hair grease" as it is called, on their hair.  This leads to suffocation of the scalp, attracts dirt and only makes the surface of the hair slick.  Using products that moisturize from the inside of the hair shaft, left my hair soft and in better condition.  When my hair was moisturized it didn't break off and grew longer!

My hair finally grew and grew.  But, it became so big people were frightened by it.  Really!  If someone rang my doorbell and I opened the door with my hair loose they freaked out.  It was kind of funny.  So I had to keep my hair in braids and in twists and after 5 years I was tired of that!  I didn't want to cut my hair so what is a wild and woolly girl to do?  I discovered the combination of products that made my hair easy to control, kept my curl pattern and allowed my hair to grow longer than ever.

Here is the recipe, I call these the "Miracle 3" and yes, I make these products and I sell them. Try them.  We have over 30,000 satisfied customers.  Call us toll free 1-888-284-HAIR OR visit the African Wonders website Our products come with a 30 day money back guarantee.

1. Shampoo - African Wonders Pre-Treat Shampoo

I only shampoo my hair every 2-3 weeks.  Hair is like fabric, the more you wash the more worn out it gets.  Pre-Treat is a clarifying shampoo that really gets your scalp and hair clean.  It brings the blood flow to the follicles producing healthy hair. If your hair is dry or you shampoo often use the Soft Curl shampoo.

2. Conditioner - African Wonders Hydrolyzer Conditioner

Always follow the Pre-Treat Shampoo with a moisturizing conditioner.  We have three in the African Wonders line.  I use the Hydrolyzer after shampooing and sit under a hair dryer for 15 minutes then rinse it out.  It is a moisturizer/reconstructor designed to deposit moisture on the inner layers of your hair.

3. Deep Penetrating Conditioner - Recovery Treatment Conditioner

Once a month I will use the Recovery Treatment to give my hair extra strength.  Sometimes I just put it on my ends.  If your hair is weak or damaged you should use it after every shampoo and always follow with the Hydrolyzer or ReSeal conditioners to put moisture back.  It is an intense protein pack which strengthens but also hardens your hair.

4. Curl Sofenter Gel - The Hair Reformer

I use this when I want wash and wear hair.  It keeps hair under control like a gel but gradually softens the hair making it more manageable.  It is perfect for applying to the new growth when growing out a chemical hair relaxer or making natural hair easier to comb and style.  It is also a great alternative to a chemical hair relaxer for children.  Many women also use it to keep their braids laying flat and soften their own hair to blend in with their hair weave.

Now for those of you starting with chemically relaxed, dyed, bleached, weak or damaged hair you can order the Hair Wonders Kit. -- $39.99

The Hair Wonders Kit contains the following:

Soft Curl Shampoo - a gentle moisturizing shampoo.  Perfect for dry hair and children. I use this as for my second lather after the Pre-Treat shampoo.

Moisture Curl Conditioner - a leave in conditioner and hair softener.  I use this when I go natural for wash and wear hair.

EHO - Essential Hair Oil - a scalp stimulating hair oil.  The best product I ever created.  It brings blood flow and oxygen to the scalp and feeds the follicles promoting hair growth.  Massage into temples for hairline loss and thinning areas.  Softens and moisturizes dry hair leaving a healthy shine.  Heals burns and relieves skin itching.  I use it on my finger tips to massage my scalp then I put it on my ends and through my hair.

H2O - A water soluble blow drying and pressing oil.  Protects hair from heat.  Leaving hair soft and manageable for a longer lasting press.

PSB - Pure Shea Butter - 100% Grade A Shea Butter for skin and hair.  I use this on my ends to keep them from drying out and splitting.  Softens dry skin.  Prevents wrinkles. Heals skin irritations.

The Product That Will Change Your Life!

The Naturalaxer-Kit-In-A-Jar- The only non caustic curl relaxer that really works.  After growing my hair out all natural for five years it became unruly.  I couldn't wear it loose and I was tired of braids and twists.  After applying the Naturalaxer I could wear my hair in a curly natural, wavy or straight.  Because the Naturalaxer doesn't break the bonds in my hair or erode the cuticle layer, my hair stays strong, grows long and healthy.
